Animal Cruelty and Testing Awareness

Animal rights is based on ethical and moral philosophy, however you don’t have to be a philosopher to know that hurting animals is wrong. At its core, animal rights is simple. It’s about being kind to others – whether they’re members of our own species or not.

As you may or may not know, animal cruelty is common everywhere, although there may be laws on preventing animal cruelty, it’s not highly effective. Every year, there are lots of animals, including pets like cats and dogs, and wild animals, that are maltreated. Animal cruelty can come in various forms. You could have observed someone physically hurting an animal, however animal cruelty can also be in the form of malnutrition (when animal owners don’t feed their pets properly). In basic language, animal cruelty is generally anything which causes injury and suffering to an animal.

There’s nothing odd or too difficult to understand about animal rights, and there are no barriers or anything stopping you from getting involved. Anyone who cares about animals can start putting these principles into practice every single day with the food they eat, the clothes they wear and the products they buy. These choices are a form of nonviolent protest that makes a real difference both by reducing the profits of corporations that harm or kill animals and by creating a growing market for cruelty-free food, fashion, and entertainment.

In recent years, such as 2015 the RSPCA received 1,118,495 phone calls, rescued and collected 118,994 animals, investigated 143,004 cruelty complaints, treated 153,605 animals, found new homes for 47,651 animals and secured 1,781 convictions by private prosecution to protect animals against those who break the laws. Surely these statistics change the way you feel about animal cruelty? And the worst thing is that these figures are only for one animal charity….

One way of fighting animal abuse is to report it as soon as it is spotted. Here are some things you can do to prevent animal cruelty:
  • Be aware of the health of animals
  • Learn to notice animal cruelty
  • Report Animal Cruelty
  • Do Some Proactive Steps to Fight Animal Cruelty
  • Peacefully protest against companies which test on animals
  • Raise money to donate to animal charities

If you were an animal, like a dog, rabbit, cat or any other other species, surely you would want someone to help you if you were being abused and mistreated?

No more animals deserve to be in pain and hurting, let’s end the suffering they receive today - everyone is able to make a difference.
